mani monday: silver glitter-tipped nails

Part of the MANI MONDAY series with Heather of Glitter and Gloss and Heather of Just Love.ly Things.

I apologize in advance: I failed to document my journey with this glitter-tip french manicure, but I am telling you, it was pretty easy and composed of some trial and error (the error was mostly that I kept smudging my pinkie finger on the coffee table and had to repaint it at least three times.  No joke.).

Either way, here's the end result.  I was quite pleased when a (fashion-conscious and trendy) co-worker asked me if I'd had them done in a salon.  "Nope!  I did them myself!"  I replied proudly.

Here's what I used:
  • Base color: OPI's "My Pointe Exactly," a lovely, lovely light gray that is semi-opaque after even three coats, from their spring 2012 NYC Ballet collection
  • Tips step 1: OPI's Designer Series "Radiance," a silver metallic foil shimmer.  Use sparingly and apply gradually -- it looks like liquid silver and goes on pretty solid, so if you're looking for a sparser smattering of glitter, you must proceed with caution.
  • Tips step 2: OPI's "Pirouette My Whistle," also from the NYC Ballet collection, is a clear base with silver micro glitter and large silver hex glitter.  You can't tell from this photo, but some of the hex glitter is in there, and it was a nice, subtle, unexpected texture.

 I used "My Pointe Exactly" (far left) and "Pirouette My Whistle" (far right) after buying this set of four minis from Ulta.

After stalking the Internet a little (it's only what I do best!) I found LOTS of other glitter-tipped ideas for you to try.

 obviously where I got the initial inspiration for mine!

 on just one nail: very pretty. {source}

 a little complicated for me, but so pretty! {source}
